FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE LEPRINO FOODS ANNOUNCES GREELEY LOCATION Date: June 13, 2008 Contact: Larry Burkhardt (970) 356-4565 In a long-awaited announcement, Leprino Foods of Denver announced today that it would construct a cheese and whey production facility in Greeley, Colorado. The first phase construction will be a 400,000 square foot processing building, represent approximately $140 million dollars investment, and will include a minimum of 260 new jobs. Future construction could expand the plant to almost 900,000 square feet, and increase employment to 500. The plant will process 7 million pounds of milk daily. Leprino first approached Upstate Colorado Economic Development with confidential inquiries about the Weld County area during the summer of 2007. Upstate worked with company to identify potential sites, package state, county and local incentives, and coordinate discussions with a variety of government officials. As the project moved forward, Upstate arranged for City of Greeley officials to join the process. The City seized upon the opportunity to bring another quality employer to the community, and aggressively pursued Leprino. City staff identified creative solutions to several issues that surfaced during the months of due diligence, and proved to be a valuable lead partner in the process of attracting Leprino. An economic impact report generated by the Economics Department of the University of Northern Colorado indicates that the direct, indirect and induced impacts of the Leprino project include $325.1 million to the City of Greeley, $4.8 billion to Weld County, and $10.1 billion to the State of Colorado over a 20-year period. Upstate Colorado Economic Development Board Chair, Larry Wood stated, “The decision of Leprino to invest heavily in Greeley underscores what we who live here have known for some time. That is, Weld County, Colorado provides the labor, the regulatory climate, favorable cost of doing business and community amenities to support a wide variety of business types. While we are very pleased to welcome yet another major employer to our community, Upstate Colorado Economic Development is anxious to continue its efforts to further expand and diversify the local job base.”
