The 2022 General Assembly adjourned late this spring after introducing 716 bills. Roughly half of these proposed bills passed this session. With one party in control of the Colorado legislature, our time and conversation prioritized protecting the interests of business and primary industry sectors that support our economy through the amendment process.
With a session that saw an extreme amount of bills introduced late in the session, we are thankful for the coordination with all our regional partners, chambers, and business organizations to address specific problems found in multiple pieces of legislation.
Serving as the acting policy chair of the statewide Economic Development Council of Colorado and as a member of the Northern Colorado Legislative Alliance, we work directly with amazing lobbyists whose tireless efforts help support Upstate Colorado’s advocacy efforts. These organizations do critical work to identify issues that affect primary industries and their ability to do business in the region and throughout the state of Colorado.
In a win, we anticipate there will be multiple programs supporting workforce needs that the business community will be able to take advantage of in the coming year. We will work to continue leveraging these opportunities on behalf of our identified growth industries and key economic drivers in agriculture, energy, and infrastructure.
As we move forward from the 2022 Colorado legislative session, we now begin to focus our efforts on the upcoming ballot initiative process. Initiatives will be certified in early August, and we will work with our industry partners and the public sector to continue supporting pro-business platforms.
Upstate Colorado is always interested in hearing from our partners in the business community on any of their business climate concerns. We’d love to talk with you!
