Evans, Colorado

Evans is striving to be development friendly and welcoming to businesses. While out promoting the available properties for retail and primary employment businesses at various real estate conventions such as the International Council of Shopping Centers RECon event, the City is increasing its facilities and services to serve the new business and residential growth the City is experiencing. A new state of the art wastewater treatment plan will open in June 2018 with the capacity to handle growth for many years to come and capability to be expanded over time. Riverside Park, destroyed by the 2013 flood, will reopen and welcome the return of tournament visitors in the fall of 2018. To support the growth of businesses in the region the City is working with developers on new residential subdivisions and multi-family projects throughout the City.

Supporting existing and businesses considering Evans is a priority. Each month an e-newsletter is sent to all licensed businesses and interested parties that includes information about business-related events, training, tips, resources, and much more. Recognition of Evans businesses is important as well. The City hosts an annual Business Spotlight Awards Dinner to recognize at least four business for their commitment to Evans and the special impact they make to the community. In addition, the City supports the connection of businesses with one another and hosts a small and home-based business Business After Hours event in conjunction with the Evans Area Chamber of Commerce and one for Latino businesses with Latinx. Through the use of social media, the City of Evans strives to promote Evans businesses through efforts such as promoting National Small Business Week and encouraging Facebook followers to challenge themselves to complete a “One a Day” visit to an Evans small business. New activities are being created regularly. The next new event is the coordination between businesses to support one another for Small Business Saturday this November.

The City of Evans is working to put its best face forward. During 2018 the City, in conjunction with the Evans Redevelopment Agency, is working with community members, property owners, and business owners for plans to improve the Highway 85 corridor. The first phase will be to make improvements to the roadway itself to create a welcoming feel to Evans. This activity will be supported by land use code revisions to support business attraction and new development along the Highway. Efforts to market the development opportunities throughout the City have included social media messaging, speaking at local commercial broker gatherings and at other business and development organization events.
